The Oral History Project

Today marks the start of a new project. I have been fortunate enough to become friends with the local farmer who, being very nearly 80 (as he likes to remind us at regular intervals), has a wealth of experience and anecdotal information to impart on the quality and conditions of rural life in the 1940s-50s.

Beginning with his childhood (aged 11 – 14) I have set out to record his memories and thoughts on growing up on a remote farmstead during the 1940s. Use the player below to hear about the village farming rights.

In the future, I hope to expand this project to include all sorts of people and their experiences, with particular emphasis on the basic conditions of daily life. If you feel you would like to contribute, please contact me. I will be delighted to hear from you…
